Tasting notes from Victoria, our team leader: Aultmore Distillery has been quietly making whisky in Speyside for over 100 years. It is the industry’s best kept secret, held in the highest regard by blenders for it’s purity and quality. In 2014 it was finally launched as a single malt and it is one that you have to try! Aultmore 12 is like eating a granny smith apple dipped in custard while walking through a meadow in the Summer. The palate freshening finish makes this the perfect tipple for a Summer evening.

Aultmore distillery was built in 1897, commissioned by, amongst others, Alexander Edwards, an unsung hero of the Scotch Whisky industry. Like so many distilleries of the day, the whisky was destined for blending, and the make from Aultmore was so revered that its production capacity was doubled after just 1 year of operating, and it has been kept a closely guarded secret of blending houses ever since.

The distillery itself is located in the heart of Speyside, just off of the 9-mile road between the town of Keith and the fishing village of Buckie. Historically you could only savour a dram of Aultmore locally if you knew who to ask at the local inns, but you wouldn’t order an Aultmore, you would ask for 'nip of the Buckie road'.

Aultmore is one if the hidden gems amongst the many distilleries in Speyside, and one of the industry’s best kept secrets. It’s a whisky that is rarely found, but once discovered it is loved and revered, and for good reason! The style of whisky produced at the distillery is fresh, grassy, clean and ethereal. It takes on characters from any cask exceptionally well, but the essence of the distillery, it's DNA, is ever present.

Aultmore 12 Years Old is a classic Speyside whisky, aromatic and fragrant in style. Elegant and uncomplicated, grassy and herbal – with notes of rosemary and thyme.

Usually reserved for blending, the exceptionally smooth, clean and fruity taste of Aultmore whisky can be traced to the Foggie Moss. The water source filters through bracken, gorse and heather purifying the water to the profit of Aultmore’s refined character.

I bought a bottle of Aultmore some time ago. The colour is light golden, taste is superb. The weight of the bottle is unreal.

This is one of my favoutite whiskies, non-chilled filtered, natural colour and bottled at 46% so ticks all the boxes. I'm no expert but I like this......hope it's not discontinued. Delivered quickly will order from Dewars again.
