Tasting notes from our Brand Ambassador Gary: Its like sitting on the foggy moss while sipping on some pine needle tea, eating custard creams and jammie dodgers.
Tasting notes from Jonathan: Understated complexity, a custard rich pain au raisin sprinkled with citrus peel, almonds and a subtle hint of spice.
Aultmore distillery was built in 1897, commissioned by, amongst others, Alexander Edwards, an unsung hero of the Scotch Whisky industry. Like so many distilleries of the day, the whisky was destined for blending, and the make from Aultmore was so revered that its production capacity was doubled after just 1 year of operating, and it has been kept a closely guarded secret of blending houses ever since.
The distillery itself is located in the heart of Speyside, just off of the 9-mile road between the town of Keith and the fishing village of Buckie. Historically you could only savour a dram of Aultmore locally if you knew who to ask at the local inns, but you wouldn’t order an Aultmore, you would ask for 'nip of the Buckie road'.
Aultmore is one if the hidden gems amongst the many distilleries in Speyside, and one of the industry’s best kept secrets. It’s a whisky that is rarely found, but once discovered it is loved and revered, and for good reason! The style of whisky produced at the distillery is fresh, grassy, clean and ethereal. It takes on characters from any cask exceptionally well, but the essence of the distillery, it's DNA, is ever present.

Great whisky and made a great present
So glad we chose to do the 'Drams Of Your Dreams’ whisky tasting. It was the last tasting on our week of visiting Speyside and Highland distilleries, and the only one where I can say I enjoyed all 5 drams. Yes, it was the most expensive tasting we did, but we expected this with such amazing choices as Glen Deveron 28Y, Aultmore 25Y, and Aberfeldy 40Y. The personal session with the Dewars Aberfeldy Team made it even more special; not least because due to a huge traffic delay on the A9 we missed our slot on Thursday but they moved it to the Friday. This tasting also opened my eyes to high-end blended single malts (I admit to being one of those 'single malt snobs' before this). Loved this tasting so much my son and I visited the beautiful Dewars shop and walked out with 4 bottles (2 x Aultmore, 2 x Dewars, and have since added the Glen Deveron 28Y to this because it was sold out and no longer available at the Aberfeldy site). Absolutely this is a 5-star recommend.
