Tasting notes from Eleanor, our Commercial Team Leader: Aberfeldy 16 is one of the true greats of the Aberfeldy range, finished in Oloroso sherry casks. The 16 has all the characteristics you would associate with an Aberfeldy Malt, sweet, honeyed and vanilla, then BANG! The nutty, spicy dark fruit notes come through, reminding me of Christmas. The flavour has a long-lasting warming feel on the tongue and mouth. It’s a very warming, enjoyable dram that keeps on giving flavour with every mouthful!
Aberfeldy is the only distillery built by the Dewar family. Initially intended as an ingredient for their Blended Scotch, our team of 12 operators craft a Single Malt with fruity and honeyed aromas.
Aberfeldy is known as The Golden Dram due to the alluvial gold that is rumoured to lie in our water source, the Pitilie Burn. We use 7.5 tons of lightly malted barley per batch and allow a gentle fermentation over 70 hours to give plenty of time for sweet, fruity flavour development. Our tall stills are heated slowly for plenty of copper contact to retain these bright flavours.
Aberfeldy is usually matured in a range of cask types giving complexity. This whisky also has approachable orange and honey flavours when young and over time subtle floral and spiced aromas can emerge. Look out for interesting finishes such as Madeira or red wine that complement our house style perfectly.

Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Whisky

An exciting addition to the Aberfeldy range, this whisky was laid to rest for 16 years giving dark chocolate flavours and more roundness to the whisky. Finished for 6 months in Oloroso sherry casks to layer fruitcake and dried fruit flavours, Stephanie Macleod describes this a a gentle kiss of sherry. There is still plenty of citrus and honey flavour coming from the careful way that we craft our whisky at Aberfeldy Distillery.

Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Whisky
Mature, enriched by the casks and with a smooth taste.
The whiskey arrived promptly and beautifully packaged. This was a gift and I’m sure he’ll be very pleased with it ..
Booked tour whilst in Scotland for Christmas but power went out so didn’t get full tour and tills didn’t work so could not buy anything which was disappointing.
We bought online. Was not Dewads fault but would have thought they would have had a generator. Was very interesting and dog friendly which was great as he was on holiday with us .
I received a bottle of this for Christmas from my mother. Not knowing the distillery, but it was featured in ‘101 Whiskies to Try Before You Die’ by Ian Buxton. Well deserved to appear in the list! Cheers!!
