The distillery team are delighted to launch this new limited edition Aberfeldy Single Malt.
Initially spending 18 years in a combination of refill casks, the whisky has undergone a finishing period of around 4-5 months in First-fill Pauilliac wine casks, a rich and complex red wine from Bordeaux.
Malt Master, Stephanie MacLeod, carefully monitored maturation and flavour development in the casks until the desired flavour profile had been achieved. Pauillac is a robust wine, so the goal was to use this cask type to complement and elevate the signature character of Aberfeldy, not mask it.
Stephanie comments, “Pauillac casks are the aristocrats of the Médoc, they provide notes of black cherries, blackberries and a cedar wood spice. Aberfeldy’s wonderfully soft signature honey and creamy vanilla notes are invigorated with swathes of plush ripe fruits and lovely nutty aromas to create an incredibly elegant and fruitful whisky”
Tasting notes from Michelle, one of our tour guides: Aberfeldy 18 combines two of my favourite things, whisky & wine, it has been finished for 4-5 months in fresh Pauillac red wine casks. To begin with the 18 has the lovely warmth and smoothness you’d associate with an Aberfeldy whisky, but this continues on with more soaked dark fruit flavours, like dates, redcurrants and apricots. A dram to share and celebrate good times with, especially in front of a cosy open fire.
